To help ensure that EMS has a strong voice in the nation’s Capitol and in government decisions that affect emergency medical services in our country, NAEMT hosted 120 EMS professionals from 40 states and Puerto Rico at EMS on the Hill Day in Washington, D.C., on May 3-4.
The event, which will be held annually, represented the EMS community’s first coordinated effort to visit congressional leaders and staff on Capitol Hill. The event included representation from all sectors of the EMS community.
Participants visited with more than 160 U.S. Senators and House Representatives.
The program included a pre-Hill Visit briefing on May 3 to prepare participants for visiting Congressional leaders, and a a reception hosted by NAEMT for all participants on May 4. At the reception, Congressman Tim Wolz from Minnesota received the Legislator of the Year Award from Advocates for EMS.
