Membership Glossary

NAEMT's Membership program contains terms or words which are described in brief below. Please contact membership@naemt.org if you have any questions or require additional information.

Individuals with an interest and involvement in EMS and who are certified or licensed as an EMS practitioner by one of the states or territories of the USA, or by the NREMT. Active members are entitled to make motions, vote and hold any office in which qualified.
Associate Member

Individuals with an interest and involvement in EMS and who are not certified as EMS practitioners by one of the states or territories of the USA, or by the NREMT. Associate members receive most benefits that are offered to Active Members, but do not have voting rights and cannot hold an office or chair committees. 

Associate Retired Member

 
Retired EMS practitioners who are no longer certified, age 60 and above. Associate Retired Members have limited benefits, do not have voting rights and cannot hold an office or chair committees.
Honorary Member Persons of distinction who have rendered outstanding service to the Association or to the EMS profession may be proposed for honorary membership. Honorary members have none of the obligations of membership but are entitled to privileges thereof. Honorary members do not have voting rights and cannot hold an office or chair committees. These members may serve on a committee, but cannot make motions.
Lifetime Member Individuals who qualify as Active or Associate members and pay “one-time” Lifetime membership dues. Past-Presidents are granted lifetime memberships without having to pay any membership dues. Lifetime members have benefits according to their Active or Associate status.
Student Member Individuals enrolled in classes of instruction leading to certification as an EMS practitioner at any level. Student membership is limited to one year and has limited benefits. These members do not have voting rights and cannot hold office or chair committees. Student members may serve on a committee but cannot make motions.
Agency Member
Any EMS service or organization may apply for agency membership, by completing the online membership application. Upon approval of the agency membership application, each individual member included in the agency member roster shall be entitled to all privileges of membership as defined by the bylaws and policies as set forth by the Association. Benefits are according to the individual’s Active or Associate status.
Training Center Member Any EMS Training Center or Educational Institution may apply for group membership. The training center group membership does not have to be an authorized NAEMT training center and is stand-alone from authorized NAEMT education training center status. Training centers interested in NAEMT group membership should contact membership@naemt.org.

Upon approval of the training center group membership application, each individual included in the training center member roster shall be entitled to all privileges of membership according to the individual’s Active or Associate status.

Introductory Member A one-year introductory membership is provided to NAEMT

education course participants by providing a valid email address. This one-time only membership introduces course participants to NAEMT and provides important information about our association and issues impacting our EMS profession.

Introductory membership has limited benefits. Membership may be upgraded anytime during the introductory year to receive benefits according to their upgraded Active or Associate status.

Role of Membership Committee The Membership Committee assists the Board of Directors in membership recruitment and retention. This committee works directly with NAEMT staff to develop an outreach strategy to increase the number of active members and review the member benefits package and services on a regular basis, recommending additions or changes, as needed.
Role of Membership Coordinator NAEMT Membership Coordinators help build and support NAEMT's membership outreach, recruitment and retention within their respective states. These coordinators present and discuss the benefits of NAEMT membership at state or local events focused on EMS and/or mobile integrated healthcare. Membership coordinators are appointed by the Membership Committee Chair.
Affiliated Association

 

An EMS membership association or organization that has established a formal relationship with NAEMT, in order to advance the EMS profession through information-sharing and discussion of the key issues impacting EMS systems, agencies and practitioners. NAEMT Affiliated Associations are represented on NAEMT Affiliate Advisory Council to provide advice and guidance to the NAEMT Board of Directors.
Affiliation Application Process EMS associations or organizations interested in being affiliated with NAEMT may submit their request and a copy of their Bylaws to advocacy@naemt.org ;for consideration.
Affiliate Member A member of an EMS association or organization who have been approved as an NAEMT Affiliated Association. Affiliate members receive benefits according to their Active or Associate status.
How to Apply Affiliate Discount (1) Eligible individuals may access their 25% affiliate discount when completing the online membership application and selecting the “Affiliate Discount” on the application.

(2) Members of NAEMT Affiliated Associations that have established a formal dual membership with NAEMT may submit their annual NAEMT membership dues to their EMS association or organization.
