The CDC has issued an update regarding Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and EMS response at International Ports of Entry. Globally, from September 2012 to date, a total of 55 laboratory-confirmed cases of infection with MERS-CoV, including 31 deaths have been reported.The CDC is requesting EMS support to look for travelers arriving from the Middle East and the Arabian Peninsula who are ill with fever plus cough or difficulty breathing.
