NAEMT Board Votes To Support Legislation To Protect Volunteer Emergency Responders
Dec 13, 2013
The NAEMT Board of Directors voted unanimously today to support H.R. 3685 and S. 1798, the Protecting Volunteer
Firefighters and Emergency Responders Act. This bipartisan legislation seeks to exempt emergency response agencies from a requirement to offer health insurance to their volunteer firefighters and emergency medical personnel. Introduced by U.S. House Representative Lou Barletta (R-PA) and Senators Mark Warner (D-VA) and Joe Manchin (D-WV), the legislation would make clear that fire and EMS agencies would not be required to offer volunteer personnel health insurance, even if they receive other nominal benefits.
