A new partnership between NAEMT, the American Geriatrics Society (AGS) and publisher, Jones & Bartlett Learning, to develop the second edition of the
Geriatric Education for Emergency Medical Services (GEMS) was recently announced. The state-of-the-art continuing education care provided in the
First Edition, is the basis for the new collaboration on the
Second Edition course, which will help prehospital professionals to better assess and manage ill, injured or disabled geriatric patients.
NAEMT President Don Lundy noted, "The GEMS course provides high quality, relevant training for all EMS practitioners. We look forward to working with JBL and AGS to enhance the course and increase access to it across the country. This course will also have tremendous value to EMS agencies establishing Mobile Integrated Healthcare programs."
Scheduled to launch in November 2014, GEMS, Second Edition will be available as a fully integrated, interactive training program. The course will address a broad range of topics specifically geared toward EMS practitioners and will be highly interactive with online content, hands-on skills, and case-based lectures. NAEMT will keep members informed as the course rolls out.
