As its first order of business, NAEMT's new EMS Data Committee prepared a comment on the draft Federal Health Information Technology (Health IT) Strategic Plan 2015-2020. The comment was approved by the NAEMT Board of Directors and submitted to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) on Feb 6. Provided at the request of the ONC, the comment responded to the draft plan designed to transform the Electronic Health Records (EHR) program - and its participating hospitals and healthcare providers - into an IT system that disseminates knowledge quickly, securely and efficiently. NAEMT commended the ONC for taking on the immense responsibility that widespread adoption of Health IT entails, but went on to raise more than a dozen concerns with several sections of the draft.
