In an April 10 letter to the Blue Ribbon Study Panel on Biodefense, NAEMT asserted the significance of including Field EMS in any policy change or recommendation the panel provides to Congress on biodefense. Developed by NAEMT's EMS Preparedness Committee, the letter highlights the role of EMS as an essential part of the first responder community and one that is relied upon to mitigate incidents involving biological agents. NAEMT commends the panel for bringing attention to the very important topic, but raises concerns that its members have not engaged EMS nor understand the leading role of EMS as a first responder in biological events.
