NAEMT is pleased to report that H.R. 1818, the Veteran Emergency Medical Technician Act of 2016, has been signed into law with the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA). Our sincere thanks to all EMS advocates for your dedicated efforts in moving this bill through to become law. It is a true victory for our EMS profession!
H.R. 1818 was introduced by Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) and Rep. Lois Capps (D-CA), passing both the U.S. House and Senate on July 13 as part of the House/Senate conference report to
S. 524 (CARA).
CARA aims to address the nation’s growing heroin and opioid addiction epidemic by authorizing nearly $900 million over five years to enhance prevention, education, treatment, recovery and law enforcement efforts.
