The NAEMT Board of Directors unanimously endorsed the appointment of Dr. Craig Manifold as NAEMT’s new Medical Director. In this position, Dr. Manifold will provide advice and guidance to the NAEMT Board of Directors on medical issues related to the association’s activities, including its policies, position statements, programs, and vendor agreements to ensure consistency with accepted prehospital clinical standards and practice. He will also serve as NAEMT’s liaison to the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) and the National Association of EMS Physicians (NAEMSP).
Although new to this position, Dr. Manifold is not new to NAEMT. He currently serves as the Chair of our Military Relations Committee, and as Medical Director for NAEMT’s All Hazards Disaster Response course and Principles of Ethics and Personal Leadership course. He has represented NAEMT at national meetings and conferences, and is a regular attendee at EMS On The Hill Day.
“It is an honor to participate with a progressive and forward-thinking organization — one which advocates for its members while maintaining our patient’s interest as a core mission,” said Dr. Manifold. “Our profession of prehospital care is expanding its scope and roles. We must anticipate change and prepare our workforce to provide excellent patient care and great customer service, irrespective of the challenges we face. I look forward to engaging and supporting all members of NAEMT and providing leadership and direction for our physician partners. EMS medical direction is an integral component of emergency healthcare systems and physician involvement is critical to its success,” continued Manifold.
NAEMT President Dennis Rowe noted, “Our association is honored to have Dr. Manifold on the NAEMT Board as our Medical Director. Not only does he possess tremendous clinical knowledge and experience that will support our Board, he truly understands all aspects of the EMS profession and industry. His appointment will strengthen our association and support the important work that we undertake for our members.”
