On April 24, 2009, the members of the NAEMT Board of Directors met in Kansas City, Missouri, for their mid-year meeting. They came from all corners of our nation to consider issues impacting the EMS profession, NAEMT’s membership, and the operations of the association.
Actions taken by the Board at the meeting included:

Adoption of a new position statement calling for the expansion of the Public Safety Officer Benefits program

Agreement to send a letter to the American Ambulance Association in support of its federal grant request for EMS Personal Protection Equipment

Adoption of a new operational policy governing the administration of NAEMT’s operating and reserve funds

Agreement to fund a new outreach position for membership and sponsorships

Support of the concept of an annual EMS on Capitol Hill Day

Ratification of the slate of new candidates for the Board of Trustees of the NAEMT Foundation
The Board also received a report on the work to date of the Special Committee on Elections and Candidacy, a status report on the project sponsored by the National Fire Protection Association, from Jerry Johnston, who represents NAEMT on this project, and a report from Connie Meyer, one of NAEMT’s representatives to Advocates to EMS, on advocacy activities.
Board members also participated in an in-depth discussion on the impact of the new EMS scope of practice model and national education standards on the EMS profession and NAEMT.
